About What Up Inc.
Technology changes. Knowing how to work through a problem matters more.
What Up Inc. — focused on working through problems, based in Calgary, Alberta.
About
What Up Inc.
What Up Inc. is a small technology consulting company led by Michael Schijns.
I've spent much of my career working around technology projects — understanding business needs, coordinating people and technology, solving delivery problems and helping projects move from an idea toward something that works.
I don't claim to have every answer. What I do know how to do is work through a problem: ask the right questions, understand what you're actually trying to accomplish, research what I don't know, evaluate the options and stay focused on the outcome.
Experience
Experience behind What Up
What Up combines hands-on technology problem solving with decades of experience delivering and managing technology projects.
That experience includes enterprise applications, SAP environments, application management, project and program delivery, business requirements, vendor coordination and working across business and technical teams.
I'm also a Project Management Professional (PMP), but credentials are only part of the picture. The same practical approach I've used throughout my career now applies to AI, automation, software development and prototyping.
The goal is still the same: understand the problem, work through the options and find a practical way forward.
AI & Working Model
Technology is changing how I work, too.
AI has dramatically expanded what a small company like What Up can do.
I use AI to help research problems, challenge ideas, define requirements, organize work, prototype solutions and assist with development and testing.
AI isn't the product. Solving the client's problem is the product.
Some work that previously required several roles can now be supported by AI tools. Conversational AI can assist with thinking and analysis, project tools can organize work, and development agents can help build and test solutions. But AI does work; What Up remains responsible for the work.
Principle
Start with the problem.
Sometimes the answer might involve AI. Sometimes automation. Sometimes software. Sometimes improving an existing process or system. And sometimes the right answer may be that you don't need new technology at all. The technology depends on the problem — not the other way around.
